Bake the cake according to the directions on the box

After the cake has cooled, crumble it into a bowl

Mix in 3/4 of the can of frosting

Roll cake mixture into 1" balls or into egg shapes

Place on cookie sheet and put into fridge for a few hours or in freezer for 15 minutes

Melt the candy melts according to the directions on the package

Do not overheat the candy coating. If it is too thick, add a bit of vegetable oil or shortening to thin it out. Do not add water.

Place the melted candy into a bowl that is at least 3" deep.

Place a cake ball into the bowl, making sure it it fully covered by the candy coating

Lift the cake ball out gently with a spoon

Tap the spoon on the side of the bowl to remove excess candy coating

Place cake ball onto wax paper

When cake balls are dry, decorate.

For chicks:

Use corn syrup to attach sprinkles for the beak, feet and wings

Use the black edible marker to draw 2 eyes

For Easter eggs:

Using the paint brush, paint a design onto the eggs.

Sprinkle the decorating sugar over the corn syrup. Work over a bowl to reuse the sugar

Adhere colored sprinkles to the egg with corn syrup.
