Today I’m sharing an easy Christmas gift. I love making ornaments and decided to make some for my kids teachers this year. I like the look of chalkboard and since chalkboards and teachers pretty much go together, I made a Chalkboard Ornament teacher gift.
I made this with the supplies that I got from Consumer Crafts. If you haven’t checked out their website, you need to. Like right now. Go ahead, I’ll wait. Here are the goodies that I got for my ornament project.
2×2 chalkboard ornament
Chalk pen
Holiday icons adhesive stencils
Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint in Rouge
Red and green glitter
Spouncer brush
Glue pen
Glue gun
The glass ornaments and ribbon are for another fun ornament that I’ll be sharing soon.
You will need 2 chalkboards for this ornament. To make the chalkboard ornament, choose a stencil and place it on the chalkboard. The stencils are very small and most fit on the chalkboard. The stencils are adhesive and you can stick them over and over so you can get the placement just right. I chose this cute gingerbread man. Make sure to clean all the dust off of the chalkboard before you move into the next step.
Put a very small amount of paint onto the brush. You don’t want too much paint or it will seep under the stencil. Dab the paint onto the stencil. I gave it two coats. Remove the stencil. Place that chalkboard aside to let dry fully. Using the chalk pen, write a message on the second chalkboard. This chalk pen is semi-permanent. Once it dries on the chalkboard, it will not smear or wipe off unless you use a wet paper towel. This particular chalk pen says it is a fine tip but you won’t be able to do very intricate details. The writing you see below is about as thin as the pen can write. Just be aware of that because you won’t be able to create super small letters or designs.
Place a line of glue around the edge of the chalkboard and sprinkle with glitter. I used a glue pen but regular glue will work too. Just make sure you don’t glob on the glue. You’ll want to clean up any smears that you made with the chalk pen as well. You can see what I mean in the picture, below.
When everything is dry, glue the 2 chalkboards together with hot glue. Now you have a unique 2 sided ornament perfect for a teacher gift. I created 2 of these ornaments. One with red glitter and one with green.
