I stink at birthday shopping. Yes, I’m horrible at it. There are many times when my parent’s cards get mailed late. Really late. And I am ALWAYS out shopping on the day of a party for a gift. My children are school age so it seems like we have a birthday party to go to every other weekend. And it never fails… 2 hours before the party and I’m scouring the aisles for the perfect gift and then I end up paying out the wazoo for birthday cards. I’ve put my foot down and decided no more. I think I’ve finally got the solution and its called a Birthday Box.
What is a birthday box? Simple…it’s a box that I add gifts to all year long so when a birthday comes up, I just pick a gift from the box. The gifts are purchased on sale and are usually good for both boys and girls but if I find a good deal on a Barbie or some Legos, those will go in the box too.
In addition to toys, I also add cards to the box. And not the expensive cards. Did you know that you can get Hallmark cards for as little as .47 cents? Say WHAT? They are called Hallmark Value Cards. Repeat after me… “I (insert your name) will not pay for overpriced cards again. EVER.”
I was at Walmart the other day and noticed that they have lots of Hallmark Value Cards. I used to think that the inexpensive cards were a bit generic but this is Hallmark we’re talking about. They don’t do generic. They have some really cute designs so I stocked up on birthday cards for everyone and anyone. I’ve got cards for kids and my mom and dad and a few others for special occasions like my nephew’s birth next month.
I’m so excited that I’m organized for birthdays this year. No more excuses for late cards and no more running around the day of the party trying to find a gift. Hallmark even has a Rewards program where you get a reward for every 5 cards you buy. Rewards like gifts cards, discounts or dollars off! You can even log your purchases using an app for your smartphone. Make sure you check out connectionsfromhallmark.com to sign up for Hallmark Rewards, and to see great content from other bloggers. Having a birthday box is such a good idea! I’m passing this onto my daughter; they have a large circle of friends with children and it seems there’s a birthday to celebrate every week. With this idea she can be prepared!
