My laundry room is super small and not very functional. Actually, it’s a closet located in my kitchen. So at any given time I have piles of clothes on my kitchen floor, right in front of my fridge. It is oh so lovely. I long for the day when I can have an entire room devoted to this task where I can wash, dry and fold in style. Most days, this is what I feel like when it comes to laundry. Who can relate?
I have visions of walking into a beautiful oasis, taking in a deep breath of freshly scented air and then joyously folding my laundry. Until that day, my little laundry closet will have to do so I’ve tried to give it a small facelift by making this Laundry Room Change Jar.
I don’t know how many times I’ve found loose change at the bottom of washer after doing a load of clothes. I usually just stash it in my pocket and then it ends up at the bottom of the washer AGAIN in the next load of laundry because I forget it is in my pocket. That change can really add up so I wanted to create a clever place to hold all of it.

Washboard
Chalky Finish Paint in Treasure
Sandpaper
Silhouette Machine (optional)
I found this washboard at a local flea market.
Its got this cool stamp on the back and after a bit of research, I found that it is original. Please don’t hate me because I paint it.
First, I painted the front of the washboard with a coat of chalky finish paint. After it dried, I took 120 grit sandpaper and distressed it. Next, I cut out the words “Keep the Change” on white vinyl using my Silhouette machine. Side note… the font is Lavenderia which was inspired by the font on landromat windows in San Francisco. Since it is going in my laundry area, I found this font quite appropriate.
Next, I applied the mason jar to the lower half of the washboard using epoxy. Follow the directions on your epoxy. Mine was fully set in about 30 minutes.
Now my laundry area is a bit more stylish, complete with the new method laundry detergent. Look at how bright and colorful the bottle is! I love how the bottle is clear so the detergent actually adds a little pop of color to my laundry area.
Hopefully now my loose change can end up in my bank account and not at the bottom of my washer!
