I love Christmas porch decorations and have wanted to make some sort of sign for my porch for years. This is the year that I finally did it! I created this fun Wooden Christmas Sign.

Create this statement piece Wooden Christmas Sign with @decoart paint!

To make this sign you will need:

Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Romance and Everlasting

A piece of MDF (mine is 1.5’wide by 4′ long)

Pencil

Ruler

Sponge brush

Small paintbrush

First, using the sponge brush paint the MDF with a coat of Everlatsing. Don’t worry about covering the wood entirely. Use a light coat for a weathered look.

After that coat is dry, sketch on the “Ho Ho Ho” with a pencil. Use a ruler to get the “H” straight. Don’t be afraid to sketch and draw several lines until you get things the way you want them. Since the paint has a chalky finish, it is easy to erase what you don’t need and it does not leave smudge marks. Space your letters out accordingly depending on the size of your wood.

After you have your text sketched out, outline the letters with the Romance (or Rouge) Chalky Finish paint using a small paintbrush. I like to paint just inside the border of the letters so minimal paint gets outside the lines. Use the spongebrush to fill in the letters. Put the first coat on light and then put on thicker second coat. Use long even strokes.

When the paint is dry, touch up areas with a small paintbrush if desired. I did not touch up areas because I did not want it to look too “perfect”. In the photo below you can see that some areas of the “H” are lighter than others. The paint has amatte chalky finish so it will look a bit weathered but you can distress it with sandpaper if you like. I finally have a statement piece for my porch and I love it.
