My love of mason jars grows with every project that I make with them. I love the look of chalk painted jars and decided that I would make one as a gift for my mom for Mother’s Day. So mom, if you’re reading this (and I know you are) sorry to ruin the surprise but you will have this lovely Chalk Paint Mason Jar Vase in a few weeks.
To make this chalk paint mason jar vase you will need a sponge brush, some Americana Chalky Finish Paint in two different colors and a piece of sandpaper. For the chalky finish paint, you will want a dark color and a lighter color. I used Relic and Serene. (affiliate links)
First, paint your Mason jar with the darker color paint. Let that dry and then paint over the dark color with the lighter color. depending on how you like your paint coverage, you may want to use two coats. I used one coat of Relic and two coats of Serene.
After the top coat had dried, take some sandpaper and go over any raised area like the words on the front of the jar. The light color will be sanded away and the darker color will show through. I also sanded some other raised areas of the jar as well. If you want it to look more weathered/rustic, just sand more.
Now fill the Mason jar with your mom’s favorite flowers and attach this adorable tag! You can see below where I sanded around the top of the jar.
You can download the free printable tag here. Please note that these tags are for personal use only.
